Healy waits for a backwall shot in the final against Lenning.
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. - Tony Healy said “Today is what I’ve dreamed about since I started coming to the states for the juniors,” after winning the Simple Green US Open final over Sean Lenning.  “And, I have Bruce FaBrizio and the Alvarado family to thank for running tournaments like this.”Healy’s precision play kept Sean Lenning’s blasts under control just enough to win the tiebreaker in a fabulous display of control.  “I wanted to keep him out of the center and it was just enough,” Healy explained.

Marcos Chavez and Vince Munoz won their third consecutive doubles title, splitting $15,000 between them for their impressive effort rallying to win the second games of both the semis and finals.  “I just wanted to stay consistent,” said Marcos as the tight second games.

Lisa Gilmore was on top of her game in the first game of the women’s final but knew it wouldn’t be that easy all the way after the 21-9 first game.  “Whenever we play, it’s almost always 11-8 or 9,” Lisa said after rallying from an 8-3 deficit in the tiebreaker.

The Naty Alavarado Ameteur events featured the great prizes and super Simple Green Hospitality.  That brought out 230 players for great competition in all divisions.

Thanks to the WPH for webcasting the play on the exhibition court, taking the action from the most lucrative event of the year to around the globe.

Fountain Valley, Calif. - Luis Moreno continued his impressive run through the upper echelons of handball, taking the first game and holding an 8-3 edge over Sean Lenning before Lenning tallied the final 8 points for the win.

Lenning (in the photo) will face Tony Healy, who put out on a great show to defeat Emmett Peixoto with a precision attack that left Peixoto in frustration after the midway point of the first game.

In the women’s, Anna Christoff and Lisa Fraser will square off for another duel after winning their semifinal matches.

Anton Wilson and Jason Coronado made believers out of the fans with their doubles prowess, shooting their way past John Bike

Eddie Chapa and Greg Ramirez earned a shot at fifth place with an 11-10 win over hard-hitting Dessie Keegan and Joe McCann.

In the playoffs for significant prize money in the 100 K total purse, Paul Brady woke up ill and didn’t take the court but there were plenty of great matches as Naty Alvarado Jr. earned an 11-10 win over Allan Garner.
