Guidelines for Grant Proposals

Request for Development Fund Grant Proposals, 2008

In our mission to Organize, Promote, and Spread the Joy of Handball, the Perfect Game, the USHA is soliciting proposals for funding youth handball projects. Any person or group interested in starting a handball program for youngsters may submit a proposal. Awards are based on availability of funds.

You must follow the guidelines carefully to be considered for funding. Incomplete proposals not following the guidelines or received after the deadline will not be considered. The USHA funds projects that promote the development of handball. The grants will be awarded based upon a vote of the development committee, approved by the USHA Board of Directors. Programs may be organized within school instruction, after-school programs, or community or club/Y programs. Due to the limitations of funding, the USHA is not in a position to fund the building of facilities. The USHA prefers to not fund administrative costs, but actual program and equipment expenses. Special preference is given to programs receiving matching funds. The following request for proposals is for possible funding for programs to take place in the year 2008.

Number the following topics in your proposal:

No cover pages, please. You may attach a maximum of one page of additional information at the end of your proposal. Photographs and videos are welcome, but will not be returned.

  1. Your name and your program’s title.
  2. The purpose and goal of your program (what do you hope to accomplish?)
  3. Summarize your qualifications for heading this, and the qualifications of any other key leaders in your program. This should include your handball experience, and teaching or coaching experience, if applicable. Include the name and current phone number of three references.
  4. History: If your program is not new, briefly describe the past and your accomplishments. How has it been funded previously?
  5. Whom will your program serve? Describe age group, community area, and number of enrollment anticipated.
  6. Describe how you recruit students to/ choose students for/ your program.
  7. Where will your program take place (specific location(s)).
  8. Complete a time line of your program, including from/to dates and what times will organized instruction be scheduled (example: Saturdays and Sundays from 2 PM - 4 PM).
  9. Budget: This should detail how the money will be spent and a time line of when the money will be spent. If you need the Development Fund cost for your handball equipment, please contact the USHA. If you receive funding from other sources, please list (other assistance is beneficial to your project’s consideration for funding). Your budget MUST INCLUDE EQUIPMENT EXPENSES.
  10. What is the estimated cost per participant?
  11. Amount you are requesting from the USHA Development Fund. Please also be certain to state whether you would be able to work with a portion of the requested amount, or if the program is completely contingent upon the funding you request of the Development Fund (the program would be cancelled without total funding).
  12. If you were a grant recipient last year, you must include your year-end summary with your proposal to be considered for funding.
  13. Expected outcome/result/impact: This should include an explanation of how long-term success of the project can be evaluated. A report at the conclusion of the year must be written to the board of directors.

Please follow the guidelines in your proposal.  Proposals that do not follow the guidelines or are incomplete will be returned.  Please get your grant proposals in early!

Thank you for your time and interest in youth handball.
