David Chapman wins the USHA/DAC Handball Classic over David Fink, 21-6, 21-13.
Once the second game started, aside from a quick 4-0 jump by Fink, Chapman was again able to dictate the pace, building a 14-7 lead with a 10-3 scoring run. The long rallies were taking their toll on both players, and as Chapman earned three more points, Fink started getting into a rhythm. One shot that swung the momentum Fink's way was an incredible right-hand kill from the right corner 39 1/2 feet deep. Controlling the rallies for a moment, Fink closed the gap to four points, trailing 13-17 before Chapman called a time-out. The time-out cooled off Fink's scoring streak and gave Chapman the rest to finish out the match 21-13. Andy Nett played brilliantly down the stretch, defeating Dane Szatkowski for 9th Place. A special thank you to Toyota, the DAC Sponsors, Rob Barr and the rest of the DAC Staff. The players and fans enjoyed a tremendous Pro Handball Event.

O'Donnell couldn't carry his momentum through the next round where he was defeated by David Fink in two games, 21-8, 21-10. Fink dropped Mehilos in the quarterfinals before earning his finals bid against O'Donnell. The tournament's most exciting match was the semifinal between David Chapman and Allan Garner. Chapman recently had corrective eye surgery and had been complaining about picking up the ball. He showed no ill effects in the first game trouncing Garner 21-3. Garner didn't let the first game blow-out keep him down long. He was able to build a comfortable lead in the second game and hold off a surging Chapman to force the tiebreaker. In the third frame, Garner reached matchpoint against Chapman at 10-7. But Chapman maintained his cool, stealing the serve and scoring the remaining points to snatch the victory and secure his spot in the final against Fink. In the Drop-Down Final, Andy Nett will face Dane Szatkowski for the 9th Place Playoff.
Friday's Update:
Allan Garner faced Danny Bell for the first time since their epic 2005 National 4-Wall semifinal. In that match Bell edged Garner 11-10 to reach the final. "He's probably wanted this rematch for a long time." Bell said. Garner made certain this rematch wouldn't be nearly as climatic with a two-game 21-7, 21-2 win. David Chapman held off a determined Andy Nett to advance in two games, 21-9, 21-13. In the final match of the evening, Jonathan Iglesias and Carlos Chavez battled for three games in the day's only tiebreaker. Chavez executed two perfect kills to earn the tiebreaker but couldn't answer Iglesias in the final set losing, 21-18, (20-21), 11-7.
