BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Tyree Bastidas, 19, broke through with a big win over Satish Jagnandan, defeating the five-time National champ, 21-18, in the final. Jagnandan opened and maintained a 5-point cushion until the score reached 18-13. Looking up at a 13-18 deficit, Bastidas buckled down for an amazing 12-0 run to snatch the win. The LeeCon singles title continues to elude Jagnandan who has yet to win it. Considering the talented draw, Jagnandan may have finally run out of gas in the final. In the quarters, Jagnandan edged John "Rookie" Wright 21-19 in a tense nail-biter which featured some controversial calls from the official. The reward for the win was a match-up against Billy O'Donnell in the semifinals. Jagnandan was up to that challange as well, defeating O'Donnell 21-15 to earn his spot in the final.
On the other half of the draw, Bastidas turned away Cesar Sala 21-14 to earn his match against Jagnandan in the final.
The Women's Open division featured 12 players, and Theresa McCourt powered her way to an impressive win over Danielle Daskalakis 25-6. In the semis Daskalakis defeated Ten 25-14 while McCourt beat Lopez 25-9. Read More for Doubles results...
