USHA President Mike Steele Suffers Heart Attack
Tucson, AZ - October 19, 2009 - A mere two days following the conclusion of the highly successful World Handball Tournament in Portland, USHA President Mike Steele suffered a heart attack while playing handball at the Multnomah Athletic Club. A quick response helped save his life, including the use of defibrillators five times to restart his heart. He is home now, recovering, and will start cardiac rehab in the days ahead. Surgeons placed two stents in the blocked artery that caused the problem.
Lightning strikes twice: Steele's son, Matt, also only two days following taking 2nd in the World A Doubles, suffered an attack of appendicitis. He had successful surgery the same day that his father was admitted to a different hospital in the Portland metro area. Matt is doing fine. His surgeon had never performed an appendectomy but did a fine job anyway. |
