Bastidas Soars at Junior 3-Wall!

VENICE BEACH, Calif. - The Tyree Bastidas juggernaut keeps rolling through juniors events. Bastidas defeated Fergal Collins,21-8, 21-19. Collins made sure Bastidas earned every point, forcing the Brooklyn handballer to come back from a 9-0 deficit in the second game.
Bastidas and partner Ricky Ortiz rolled in their doubles win over Fergal Collins and Ryan Sutherland, 21-7, 21-7. By winning the Boy's 19-Singles and 19-Doubles, Bastidas secured his name amoung some of the best junior handballers.
The last loss Bastidas suffered was in the 19-Singles semifinals to Billy O'Donnell at the 2007 Juniors in Elmhurst, N.Y. This win marked the 7th consecutive final that Bastidas has won in 1, 3, and 4-wall junior national events.
Brant Bidegain edged Erik Matiasek in the Boy's 17-Singles, 21-3, (15-21), 11-9.
Kansas City's Hector Facio rolled in the Boy's 15-Singles, dropping Julio Garcia, 21-8, 21-2.

VENICE BEACH, Calif. - Tyree Bastidas will be playing in his seventh consecutive national junior singles final (includes 1, 3, and 4-wall) on Sunday morning. Bastidas will face Ireland's Fergal Collins. Collins has shown he's right at home playing in California, and is looking to take home more hardware. Last month at the Four-Wall Nationals, Collins won the Men's A and Boy's 19-Singles titles.
The two will also face off in the Boy's 19-Doubles final.

VENICE BEACH, Calif. - (Friday) Play continued on another perfect day at the
Venice Beach Rec Center and Boardwalk. All number one seeds advanced
in their respective divisions. In the Boy's 13-Singles, Damion Chapa
survived a first round scare, but nicely recovered in the third game to
advance over Santa Barbara's Alex Guadarrama 21-7, (14-21), 11-2.
Boy's 19 and 15-Doubles began Friday afternoon. Tyree Bastidas and
Ricky Ortiz opened play with a dominant two-game win. Down 17-20, CJ
Laffey and Erik Matiasek fought off three game points to win their
second game and avoid a tiebreaker. The youngsters from the Lattof
YMCA team defeated Joel Torres and Jose Garcia, 21-11, 21-20.

Preliminary singles matches started Thursday afternoon
at the Venice Beach Rec Center Handball Courts. Denver's Marcea Mosely
advanced with a tiebreaker win over Jose Garcia of Venice in the Boy's
17 Singles, (20-21), 21-19, 11-6. Garcia's doubles partner Joel Torres
was able to win his first round match in another tiebreaker over Kyle
Kloss, 21-9, (18-21), 11-1. Singles divisions all began Friday morning
with doubles starting in the afternoon.
Junior handball players from around the country will compete for
national titles at the Venice Beach Rec Center Handball Courts, only a
few feet from the World Famous Muscle Beach and the Venice Beach
Boardwalk. Play for the 2009 USHA National 3-Wall Juniors
Championships begins Thursday at 4:00 pm.
