USHA Pro Stop & NCHA Regionals - Final PDF Print E-mail

David Chapman ran into the finals by defeating Emmett Peixoto 21-6, 21-16.  Chapman made his first USHA Pro Stop final since 2004.

Courtney Peixoto wins Women's Pro Stop

CONCORD, Calif. - In the Men's Pro Final, David Chapman jumped to an early lead to take the first game from Sean Lenning 21-13.  Chapman enjoyed a 17-6 advantage before Lenning made a short run to cut the deficit to 17-13.  A time-out and a shirt change gave Chapman the break he needed.  When the two resumed play, Chapman started putting the ball down more and mixed up his serve to close out the first game. 

"Sean's a great player.  He's going to make his shots, and that's what he started to do." Chapman said between games.   

In the second game, Chapman again ran out to a big lead which he was able to maintain by winning the match by the same 21-13 score. 

Courtney Peixoto came back to snag the Women's Pro Stop defeating Anna Engele 21-8, 20-21, 11-6.  Jennifer Hinman took third place with a two game win over Tracy Davis 21-19, 21-19.

Dan Armijo could not continue with an injured shoulder, forfeiting to Tyler Hamel this morning for 9th Place.  Hamel and David Fink put on a Pro Exhibition match for the fans that showed up to watch the playoff.  

The NCHA NorCal Regionals were completed Sunday Morning.  Following are the winners of each division:

Sean Lenning and David Chapman will meet in the Men's Pro final Sunday morning.  The match is a true test for both players out to prove they're the  favorites heading into the USHA National Four-Wall Championships. 

Lenning has looked sharp the entire tournament.  "Lenning is out for blood.  He's playing really well right now." said referee David Fink.

On his 24th birthday, Lenning celebreated by earning a spot in the final with a two game winner over Armando Ortiz, 21-16, 21-13. 

In the day's first Men's Pro semifinal, David Chapman won the first game against Emmett Peixoto, 21-6.  Peixoto recovered nicely in the second, but Chapman was simply too good.  The eight-time national champion showed flashes of his past brilliance, reaching the final by winning 21-16

In Women's action, Anna Engele remained unbeatead as she defeated Tracy Davis in two games, 21-11, 21-3. 

Courtney Peixoto overcame asthma issues from the day before and defeated 21-16, 21-3. 

Peixoto and Engele will play tomorrow to determine 1st - 3rd place. 

Tyler Hamel will face-off against Dan "The Hand" Armijo for the 9th Place Playoff.   

Armando Ortiz stormed into the semifinals with a dramatic tiebreaker comeback.  In the last quarterfinal of  the afternoon, Allan Garner found himself on the wrong end of game point in the first.  Down 15-20, Garner took back the serve and chipped away at his deficit for the 21-20 win.  Ortiz cranked up his game in the second to force the tiebreaker with a 21-9 victory. 

In the tiebreaker, Garner ran to a big 7-1 lead., but Ortiz, no stranger to impressive comebacks, outscored his opponent 10-1 for a remarkable come from behind 11-8 win. 

The morning's first quarterfinal match had Marcos Chavez jumping out to a 7-0 lead over Emmett Peixoto in the first game.  Peixoto warmed up to turn around the game for a 18-12 advantage over Chavez.  

While the two traded side-outs, Chavez could only scratch one more point before Peixoto closed game 1 21-13. 

Peixoto watched Chavez run to a 17-13 lead in the second and started yet another comeback, knotting the score at 19 and then stealing the match, 21-19.  

Dan Armijo defeated Ricardo Diaz in the drop down division, 12, 12.

David Chapman took the first game against Luis Moreno, 21-16.   In the second, Chapman cruised to a 21-9 win.   

Sean Lenning jumped to a 16-0 first game lead and defeated David Fink in the first game, 21-8.  Lenning wrapped up the secong game by a 21-11 margin.

The Men's & Women's Pro Draws are now available.  Play begins Friday at The Big "C" Athletic Club in Concord, Calif.  

The Pro Stop will be held in conjunction with the NCHA Regional Handball Tournament.
