Peixoto sets for a back wall shot in the Pro Stop final against Moreno

Moreno wins first Pro Stop, outlasts Peixoto in three games.

DALLAS“I should have won in two,” Emmett Peixoto said after dropping the second and third games to Luis Moreno.  “But [Moreno] played really well, working me from side to side and wearing me down.  I don’t remember ever being so depleted, physically, after a tournament.”

Moreno kept his cool after dropping the first game 21-13, after racing to an 11-1 lead.  In the second, Moreno jumped out again 11-2 and then held an 18-13 lead before Emmett went rallied to take a 19-18 lead.

Moreno kept telling himself to “hang in there and keep playing his game,” and he made two aces and an uncanny off-balance right corner kill to win the second. Moreno needed the same fortitude in the tiebreaker when Peixoto mounted a 7-4 lead before Moreno came back to go ahead 10-8 and held the serve on a controversial call by referee Dave Chapman.  That’s all he needed to finish it off 11-9 for his first pro win.  “That’s about the best anyone can play and not win,” said Alvis Grant as he presented the check to Peixoto.

Dane Szatkowski earned the 9th place finish with a final win over Dan Armijo on Saturday night.
The George Lee also finished up on Sunday with Greg Sizemore coming in from California to visit his son, who is a student at SMU.  Greg, a doubles star back home, won the 50 singles over Karl Stundins.  In other events, perennial winners included Tracy Eubanks and Brett Cooper in the open and Chuck Reeve and Landon Curry in the 100-plus.
