Christoff sets for a back wall kill as Fraser moves in to cover.

Long Island, NY, Sunday, Jan. 27. - Anna Christoff found herself down on the ground and down 8-0 in the tiebreaker against Lisa Fraser in the final.  Christoff and Fraser got tangled in the rear corner and both went to the floor.

“That hurt,” Christoff said as she looked at a bruise on her calf.  “I just told myself I didn’t want to lose,” Christoff said.  “I started using the walls and moving my feet and things started going my way.

"Her way, " meant 11 unanswered points and the women’s classic title to go with her current No. 1 ranking.

“It wasn’t pretty but it was a win,” concluded Christoff of the play on the ‘fish bowl,’ as the three-sided glass exhibition court was called.

Fraser had no answer for the question of how she felt afterward.  Referee and Hall of Famer Rosemary Bellini noted that Fraser seemed to be so leg weary that she wasn’t sure of her footing in the tiebreaker.

In the Long Island Open, Billy O’Donnell opened a lot of eyes to the local talent.  O’Donnell beat Joe Hagen in the semis and forced Ricardo Diaz to a tiebreaker in the singles final before running out of gas.

Megan Mehilos takes a backwall shot against Christoff in the semifinals

Long Island, NY, Sat., Jan.26 - Legends of Women’s Handball square off on Sunday as Anna Christoff faces Lisa Fraser in the final of the Women’s Classic.  Christoff rebounded from a first-game loss against Megan Mehilos (shown taking a backwall against Christoff), and won two convincing games, including an 11-0 tie breaker to advance.  Meanwhile, Lisa Fraser withstood a run by Jennifer Schmitt in the secong game to advance to Sunday’s final.

The top two seeds, 40 and 44 have met on many occasions with No. 2 seeded Lisa taking the most recent encounter in Minnesota at the Four-Wall nationals.  But Anna got the No. 1 seed after winning the most recent Simple Green US Open when Lisa fell in the semis.

Jennifer Hinman and Maria Daly will square off for the A title, which is 9th place.

The Long Island Open is also winding down with most semifinal and final matches yet to play on Sunday.

Missouri State players Katie Mackoul, Emily MacMahill and Bailey Chandler show off their Women's Classic shirts.
round of 32 has been completed and in the read more section.

"It’s the largest one in a number of years,” said host Kevin Kilgallen of the ICHA event that drew players from around the country for added prize money  and the chance to watch the best women players.

Kevin’s words also rang true for the women’s events, which is the largest in over a decade. The players were pleasantly surprised with the shirts that featured hi-tech fabric, sized for women and completed with every player's name on the back.

Kilgallen and Rosemary Bellini started early and raised almost $15,000 in travel funds to offer the best women to attend and the strategy worked.

Everyone plays on Friday but Thursday saw a number of preliminaries completed.
