Long Island, NY, Sunday, Jan. 27. - Anna Christoff found herself down on the ground and down 8-0 in the tiebreaker against Lisa Fraser in the final. Christoff and Fraser got tangled in the rear corner and both went to the floor.
“That hurt,” Christoff said as she looked at a bruise on her calf. “I just told myself I didn’t want to lose,” Christoff said. “I started using the walls and moving my feet and things started going my way. "Her way, " meant 11 unanswered points and the women’s classic title to go with her current No. 1 ranking. “It wasn’t pretty but it was a win,” concluded Christoff of the play on the ‘fish bowl,’ as the three-sided glass exhibition court was called. Fraser had no answer for the question of how she felt afterward. Referee and Hall of Famer Rosemary Bellini noted that Fraser seemed to be so leg weary that she wasn’t sure of her footing in the tiebreaker.
