Emmett Peixoto or Sean Lenning will be one of the first names engraved on the beautiful hand-blown glass trophy. Each advanced to the finals with impressive wins in the semifinals. Peixoto kept himself motivated despite falling behind 5-0 in the first game to Naty Alvarado. Peixoto let loose an array of shots and explosiveness that stymied his opponent 21-11, 21-12. Sean Lenning and Marcos Chavez played close before Lenning pulled away in the first game, 21-12. In the second, with Lenning leading 11-4, Chavez dove for a ball in the front court and was slow to get up. Chavez attempted to continue, but had to retire due to injury. Fans in the gallery were entertained by "Matt the Juggler" between matches on Friday night. The injuries piled up as the tournament continued on Friday. Vince Munoz had to withdraw from the drop-down bracket due to an injury to his shoulder. Munoz had trouble lifting his arm above his head, and he plans to see a specialist when he gets home. Thursday's Results
Alvarado jumped out to big leads in both games, and Ortiz never looked completely comfortable in the round of sixteen match. Alvarado won in two, 21-8, 21-1. Tommy Little was down 18-15 and looked to be conceeding the first game to Munoz despite staying close with Munoz the entire game. But Little took back the serve and scored 6 unanswered points to take the first game. Munoz came back hard in the second, forcing the tiebreaker blasting to a 21-8 win, but Little saved his best for the tiebreaker, blanking Munoz, 11-0. Luis Moreno attacked Dave Munson with a dizzying array of fly kills and serves along the wall winning 21-5. Munson changed the pace of the match in the second, staying close with Moreno before falling, 21-18. Emmett Peixoto played two controlled matches with Suhn Lee, prevailing in two games, 21-8, 21-14. Tyler Hamel blitzed Ricardo Diaz in two games, 21-1, 21-1. It was a frustrating day for Diaz, who had recent eye surgery, but still tried to make a run of it. Diaz is questionable for tomorrow's action. Bill Mehilos came out firing lasers against Marcos Chavez winning the first game 21-14 and leaving Chavez shaking his head in disbelief. Chavez quickly regrouped to win the second 21-13 and win the tiebreaker, 11-5. The WAC gallery was packed to see local star Sean Lenning who ousted Chris Tico in two games, 21-11, 21-3. In the final match of the day, Allan Garner dropped the first game to David Fink, 21-18. In the second, Garner pressed Fink into hand errors and made an incredible run winning 21-4. It was all Allan Garner in the tiebreaker, as he quickly ousted Fink 11-0.

All sixteen spots are set for "Showtime in Seattle" at the WAC! UPDATE!!! Due to an injury (calf), Joe Hagen has withdrawn from Showtime in Seattle. Joe's still planning to attend as both USHA Promotions Committee Chair and a prime mover in having the event at the WAC. Fortunately, current USHA Junior and Collegiate Champion Luis Moreno has accepted the invitation to play as the highest-ranked player available to travel. Moreno has been steadily moving up the rankings and his entrance into the event has necessitated a re-seeding of Showtime. Times have also been updated.
