Brothers took the stage in several events, including the Open singles at the George Lee where Marshall Lowy defeated Dutch Lowy, 13 and 4 for the prize money. Bill Strawn took the 75 singles in his first try in the age division. “He’s a very young 75-year-old,” Charlie Wicker said. Tracy Eubanks outlasted Chris Roberts in the 45s but didn’t have enough left to take the Open doubles with Brett Cooper against Eric Hillgren and Richard Lynch.
Jim Karner had to rely on his accurate left to beat a scrambling Joe Harris in three games. “It’s (right elbow) been coming and going lately,” Karner said. Vern Roberts filled out the 40-plus round robin and emerged the victor over Scott Harris.of Las Vegas. Jack Brady earned the 50-plus title over Frank Swehosky. Greg Raya held off Bruce Handelman in a tiebreaker for the 60-plus. Wayne Neumann earned his first title with a grueling tiebreaker over Mike Driscoll in the 65s. After the play on Saturday, players were treated to a banquet at the renowned Gilley’s country western bar.
“We’re two and two,” Ralph Weil said of his series wins and losses with Thoreson. “And we keep going back and forth, so the next one is mine,” he added.
“I threw everything I had at him,” Mike Linnik said of his loss to Jack Brady in the 50 semis. “He’s (Brady) got legs of steel,” Linnik said after coming up one point short.

“I’ve been playing good, but he (Vince San Angelo) just out-played me today,” Young said of his loss.
Wayne Neumann wore down Moser in a three-game marathon in the top half of the bracket.

DALLAS - USHA Masters Singles and 61st George Lee got underway today at the Dallas Downtown YMCA. - USHA Masters Singles and 61st George Lee got underway today at the Dallas Downtown YMCA.All fields with more than eight players got underway and there was one major shakeup in the 50s when top-seeded Vance McInnis cancelled out due to illness. USHA rules call for all events to be re-seeded up until the time a point is played, so Mike Linnik moved into the top spot there. All events get underway on Friday.
