Why the Perfect Game A ball, a wall, and a will to win can provide lifelong learning, competition, fitness and fellowship. Because no other sport demands such agility, endurance and strength, there is no better overall conditioner. Combined with the low cost to participate, lifetime competition and the need for strategy, total concentration, and fair play, handball may be The Perfect Game. Despite America’s vast wealth, physical education budgets in school districts are tight, putting children more at risk for developing sedentary habits that lead to obesity, diabetes and heart ailments later in life.
Even if kids have the opportunity to play sports, character building can be missed, even though it’s a very crucial part of the maturation process. In handball, players are required to make calls against themselves. Good sportsmanship is dictated by the rules of the game, whether there’s a referee or not.
Phase I
Access, opportunity and mentoring are crucial to the success of handball’s national renewal. A significant portion of the campaign proceeds will underwrite the cost of providing access to new players and, perhaps more importantly, training for the next generation of coaches who will bring the game to the nation. By working closely with local, youth-serving organizations and redoubling efforts at the high school and collegiate levels, young people will be exposed to the game in unprecedented numbers. Also included in Phase I:
Phase II The anticipated growth of our sport requires continued support. By endowing a legacy fund, the USHA and participating donors will ensure the financial stability of the organization, offer funds to sustain the renewal of handball and give the sport the permanence it deserves.
United States The USHA capital campaign has two goals: the first is sharing our passion for the game by introducing it to players of all ages - in elementary and secondary schools and colleges, and men and women beyond the college years. Secondly, our campaign will support these players as they mature in the sport by investing in infrastructure – planning, communications, coaches, facilities, and equipment -- needed to sustain new players’ participation and engagement. The United States Handball Association has based its program on a $5 million vision. Phase I will raise $2.5 million over five years for investment in player development, national communications, public awareness campaigns, the Handball Hall of Fame and national headquarters. Phase II will endow a $2.5 million legacy fund to ensure that passion for the sport carries on into the future. Estimated Project Costs Phase I: Player Development - $2.5 million
Phase II: Endowed Legacy Fund - $2.5 million
Passing the Torch
Think about when you first discovered handball. Remember your coach, youth leader or mentor. Maybe the game runs in your family, the intricacies of the sport passed from parent to child.
Think about all of the joy and integral life lessons you’ve taken from the sport - camaraderie, fair play, inner strength, poise in adversity and the drive to succeed. And the health benefits - agility, hand-eye coordination, stamina, power, endurance, strength and limberness. With our new vision and strategy for enhancing today’s game, while at the same time constructing a sturdy foundation on which to build the game for tomorrow, USHA makes it easy for you to take part in creating handball’s vital future. Handball: The Perfect Game. Share the Passion! Play it forward.
