Tournaments - Calendar Mon, 18 Jan 2016 16:44:22 +0100 2015 Junior 4-Wall National Championships http://www.ushandball.org/content/view/1109/ USHA National Juniors, DES PLAINES, Ill. -- Tyler Stoffel earned the coveted 19 title with a solid performance on Wednesday, defeating Anthony Sullivan in two games. nbsp; quot;I worked on my ceiling game since last year, quot; Tyler said of his improved play. nbsp; Tyler quot;graduates quot; from the juniors with wins in all age levels except the 13s. nbsp; Sullivan came back to win the doubles with Luis Bustos over Johnny Woods and Sean Kerr, who had won the 17 singles earlier. nbsp; Ivan Burgos, Ray Ure and Kena Byrd-Jackson were the rare players to win singles and doubles while Ayden Brule won both 9-and-under singles titles. Special awards were the highlight of the Tuesday Banquet with Junior Alumni bags given to players in their last year of eligibility who have played in at least four juniors. nbsp; Tyler Stoffel, Angel Marquez and Johnny Woods got their special gym bags. nbsp; The most coveted awards are the Newcomer (Cian O #39;Driscoll), Most Improved (Agustin Martin) and Sportsmanship (Sam Esser). In 2015, Paul Brady once again dominated the four-wall handball scene, winning his 10th National Singles title, five of six WPH Race4Eight Stops and an unprecedented fifth consecutive World Championship Singles in Calgary. Shortly after winning the World Title, Brady announced it would be his last World Championships. In Women rsquo;s Handball, Aisling Reilly and Catriona Casey maintained their their intense rivalry throughout the year, much to the delight of handball fans around the world. The two players from Ireland firmly cemented their spots as the top-two players in the world, as they faced off in the finals of every major event with each match ending in dramatic tiebreakers! While Casey dominated the first half of 2015 by winning a National Singles title and WPH Players Championship, Reilly finished strong by winning a World Title and a Simple Green U.S. Open Singles title. Sabo Sr. Memorial Collegiate Scholarships http://www.ushandball.org/content/view/517/443/ In honor of John C. Sabo Sr., a longtime supporter of handball and a state open champion in New Jersey, a perpetual college scholarship for handball players has been established. The Sabo Scholarship were the very first college scholarship specifically for handball and will go a long way toward continuing the fine efforts of young handball players and their coaches around the country. Eligibility: Any full-time college student who participates in USHA events, with special consideration for players from the Northeast Region. Applications will be examined, and the intent is to reward students with good academic records who demonstrate financial need. How to Apply: Applications may be submitted by individuals, coaches or both. nbsp; Please send an essay outlining current academic status and course work, handball experience, unofficial transcripts, and how the money would help further the applicant rsquo;s education.
