Update from First ACE

TUCSON - As y ou may have seen in Court Shorts on Tuesday, Matt Stamp will be making a career move and leaving the USHA.  We wish him the best of luck! We'll miss him and we've split up some of his duties in the office but we're most happy to report that Gary Cruz will be coming back on board to head up our First Ace effort.  Gary's passion has always been development and we're excited to have him back.  Our first order of business is a new outreach program to learn more about what's working and getting some new ideas on the table.  We'll look forward to keeping you up to date on that progress.

Please let us know if there's someone in your area who could use some help with their youth program or has ideas on getting one off the ground.

Sincerely,

Vern Roberts

Garner Wins Season Opener in Idaho

GarnerThe WPH Race 4 Eight kicked off season III in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, in conjunction with the Plummer Family Helluva Handball Bash.

Allan Garner returned to handball after taking much of last year off to be with his wife and new baby, Erikita. Garner showed no rust as he rattled off wins against Selestow, Andy Nett and Luis Moreno on his way to the final. He defeated Armando Ortiz in the final, 5, 10.

“This was one of the most rewarding wins of my life,” revealed an emotional Garner. “I am not just playing for myself, I am playing for my family and my wife and daughter, and I am so proud to win this title. I am really excited about the rest of the season.”

2013 One-Wall Nationals - Sept. 25-29

Davis Slams on Sunday at Coney Island!

1-wall_sat_web__v1p6691The 2013 USHA National One-Wall Handball Championships saw Tracy Davis become the lone slammer this year as the other winners on Saturday came up short on Sunday.  Davis and Theresa Haley edged Sandy Ng and Danielle Daskalakis in a nailbiter in the women's doubles.  Tyree Bastidas finally ran out of gas as Gio Vasquez and Alvaro Rebaza took that tiebreaker.  Andy Rousseau fell to injury in the 40s to Tony Roberts and George Figueroa.  Stephen Nuding and Richard Kocher were hoping to do better than last year and that they did as they beat Mike Grabowski and Artie Diamant in the 60s.  Matt Chu won the A yesterday but ran up against Open quarterfinalist Robert Lee in the Juniors. Finally, Dan Flickstein and Joe Agosto added to their laurels, winning the 65 doubles over Sal Cataudella and Steve Kraft.  It was a beautiful day for great play at Coney.
