Big Ball: Duenas/Cervantes Win Doubles; Hernandez Captures Singles
The WPH Race 4 Eight Stop No. 2 and Yes-2-Kids Foundation/Arizona State Handball Championships Tom Glubrecht Memorial are in the books in Tucson.
In the men's open final on Saturday night, Sean Lenning outlasted Allan Garner in the final, 15-13, 15-10. Garner was up on Lenning in game two, 10-2, before Lenning took control with 13 unanswered points to win the match and the second stop in the Race 4 Eight. Lenning defeated Andy Nett and David Fink on his way to the final.
Samzon Hernandes continued his run of big ball wins, edging Ricardo Ruiz in a final tiebreaker in the first four-wall big ball event. Sal Duenas (setting to hit in photo) and Daniel Cervantes edged Braulio Ruiz and Jonathan Iglesias in the doubles final.
In the women's open singles, Tracy Davis beat Ashley Moler in the final on Sunday morning

First Ace Helps Handball Programs with Annual Grants |
|
Thanks
to the generosity of our annual contributors, the USHA has issued its
annual request for First Ace grants proposals to fund new and continuing
junior and collegiate handball projects.
Annual First Ace Grants
are available for new and continuing junior and collegiate handball
programs. These programs require the submission of grant proposals no
later than December 20, 2012. The USHA Board of Directors will announce the Annual Grant awards in mid-January.

Brady, Reilly Continue their Dominance!
The Simple Green US Open of Handball wrapped up on Sunday at Los Caballeros.
After
being pushed to an 11-9 tiebreaker in the semis by Sean Lenning, Paul
Brady started fast in the final, beating Charly Shanks in two
hard-fought games. "This event has the same prestige as the World
Championships," both players said afterward.
Naty Sr. spoke for Bruce FaBrizio in noting the dates for next year's event as Oct. 24-27 and spoke of the inclusion of one-wall at next year's "festival of handball."
Aisling Reilly is also on a worlds' roll and got a bit of revenge with her win over Megan Mehilos on Sunday.
In big ball, Ricardo
Ruiz and Edgar Olivar won the Open doubles, while Samzon Hernardez
overpowered Juan Santos to win the singles.
Naty Alvarado Jr. (39),
and Tati Silveyra (41), rallied to defeat Michael Gregan and Ger Coonan
in a fabulous open doubles final (right) that kept Naty's home fans on
the edge of their seats throughout.

2012 World Handball Championships |

2012 World Championships: Big Ball and Nations Cup take center stage in Dublin
 Tywan Cook edged Tyree Bastidas (diving against Cook at left) to advance to the final of the World singles on Sat. night. Cook will face Pee Wee Castro for the title. Team USA has also advanced to the semifinals in the team competition, beating Puerto Rico, historically its toughest competition in the previous round (quarters).
