Killshot by Tom Alibrandi
Vern Roberts absolutely loves this novel about an underground gambling ring (guys playing handball for money).

Vern says this book almost became a movie, in fact, on the cover, it says “I am thrilled to bring Killshot to the screen. It is a taut, moving story that will make everyone want to stand up and cheer.” – Samuel Goldwyn, Jr.

Apparently, Goldwyn’s Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer folded during production of the movie and after they printed the plug on the book cover. Too bad. Vern says there was another attempt at making a similar handball movie that never quite made it either.
